Kyle Cundy
In Memory of Kyle Cundy
Kyle Cundy, a dedicated Project Manager and Community Organizer at Leathers & Associates, joined the team in 1992. For the first ten years of her career, she had the privilege of working directly with the company’s founder, nationally acclaimed architect Robert Leathers. During this time, she honed her skills in project management, community organizing, and design, laying the foundation for a career that would impact countless communities worldwide.
Over her 31-year tenure with Leathers & Associates, Kyle personally managed hundreds of playground projects across the globe, guiding them from pre-design through construction with unwavering dedication and passion. Her ability to empower clients—both young and old—was a driving force behind her work. Kyle approached every challenge with creativity and positive energy, always finding solutions that reflected her deep commitment to making play accessible and joyful for all children.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kyle was a talented mosaic artist. Before relocating to the Florida office, she owned a mosaic design studio in New York, where she taught workshops, led community mosaic projects, and produced commissioned works. Her art was featured in juried shows and solo exhibitions, and she skillfully managed and taught volunteers in the creation of large-scale community mosaics.
Kyle was truly a kid at heart, always eager to push the limits of play and the first to test new play components. Her personal experiences, including growing up with a cousin who had cerebral palsy, fueled her deep understanding of the importance of all-inclusive playgrounds. She served on the Community Built Association’s (CBA) Board of Directors for three terms and as conference coordinator for four, contributing to the organization since 1995 and promoting collaboration among its members.
Kyle’s legacy at Leathers & Associates and in the communities she served is remembered with deep respect and gratitude. Her passion for her work, her artistic talent, and her unwavering commitment to creating inclusive, joyful spaces for children continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is greatly missed, but her impact lives on in the playgrounds she helped bring to life and in the lives she touched along the way.
